Time to Talk

  • An exciting new programme for young people with Special Education Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) developed by the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Trained staff will provide 50 young people in England with person-centred planning sessions to enable young people to
    • develop their aspirations, motivation, and plans for the future;
    • feel heard and valued
    • strengthen their emotional wellbeing and resilience
    • be well equipped to manage transitions
  • Funding for the project is for 6 months and owing to the COVID-19 restrictions we anticipate all support being delivered online.
  • We are keen to reach 16-25 year olds with additional needs who are isolated and may not be engaged in education or training. Sessions will be tailored to each young person. Information and links to local networks will be provided to parents and carers where needed and useful suggestions and resources to support students who are anxious or uncertain about their future plans can be provided to education providers where students request this.
  • Young people can make a Request for Support from Time to Talk themselves or others can make a Request for Support on behalf of a young person here on the NDTi website.

Civil service paid internship for care leavers.

  • If professionals have anyone in mind they can email Elizabeth Akinsanya on ELIZABETH.AKINSANYA@dwp.gov.uk with the young person’s name and how the internship would benefit them and she will make contact to arrange some support to apply for it.

Well Grounded FREE coffee and hospitality training course

  • Applications are now open for our upcoming FREE coffee and hospitality training course, currently open to young people. This new pilot course still offers all the high quality barista skills training and impactful employment support we’ve been so successful with, and now also features more robust into-work preparation, career guidance, and potential for additional qualifications. The course will begin mid-September, and you can begin referring candidates to us immediately.
  • This course is great for clients who enjoy working with people, being hands-on, and are creative.
  • Please see the flyer attached which can be circulated to your teams, printed for notice boards, and distributed locally. Please refer to the attached FAQ document for more information about the new programme additions, eligibility, and our COVID-19 safety measures.
  • Summary:
    • Free coffee training course, delivered in person and virtually. Comprised of 7 days of hands-on barista training (part-time across 2 weeks), followed by 5 weekly career guidance sessions.
    • Internationally recognised barista qualification that stands out to employers
    • Training covering technical coffee-skills, and customer service and interpersonal skills
    • CV development and work readiness preparation
    • Fun and engaging training environment
    • COVID-19 health & safety procedures and social distance guidelines in place
    • Handbook and materials provided
    • Travel and lunches paid for
    • Employment, work placement, or further training opportunities after completion
  • Dates and location:
    • Assessment Day: Monday 14th September
    • If the candidate is eligible and passes an initial assessment, they will be invited to the Assessment Day (MUST attend to be considered for the programme)
    • Training Start Dates: 23rd September (1st Cohort) & 7th October (2nd Cohort)
  • Training Schedule: 
    • 7 x 3 hours, in-person training days across 2 weeks, in either an AM or PM group
    • 5 x 2 hours, once a week career guidance sessions, in-person or virtually
    • Location: Our Kings Cross Training Academy
  • Eligibility (must meet ALL criteria):
    • 18-24 (for this pilot course)
    • Unemployed, on a zero hour contract, or furloughed
    • Not in training or education
    • Actively looking for work
    • Have the right to work in the UK
    • Be a resident of London
    • Have conversational and written English comprehension skills
    • Be confident with basic maths; such as addition, subtraction, and ratios
  • How to refer candidates:
    • If you have suitable candidates please email a completed copy of the Well Grounded referral form to info@wellgroundedjobs.co.uk by the 10th September.
    • We will contact the candidate once we have received and approved the referral form.
    • Applications may close before the deadline if we are oversubscribed.
    • Not all applicants can be guaranteed a place, spaces limited.
